Okay, I am about to throw my laptop against the wall...
My problem is that my Pentium M 1.6Ghz refuses to run at anything other than 600Mhz, regardless of whether or not it's plugged into mains. It was working fine up until at least a week ago. Between then and now, I have installed some Palm Tungsten software, and the Republic: Revolution game. I've tried downloading SpeedSwitch, but even that program says my max CPU speed is 600Mhz. I've poked around in the BIOS without any luck finding anything even remotely related to SpeedStep or clockspeeds. The BIOS also says my processor is a 1.6Ghz running at 600Mhz. In WinXP, my power settings are set to "Always On". WTF is going on?? I am about to go insane. Please help! Thanks |

Check what power scheme you have it set to.

Okay, after installing SpeedSwitch, I restarted my computer, and then lo-and-behold: my processor's back to 1.6Ghz. SpeedSwitch adds it own scheme to the "Power Scheme" options.
I'm still confused as to why the hell my CPU dropped down to 600mhz in th efirst place though. Thanks strog for your quick reply

My work laptop did the same thing. If it was on batteries at a slow speed, and I plugged it in, it wouldn't increase speed untill I rebooted. I did the same install and used the provided profile. With my laptop there was a setting in the BIOS that would force the computer to use the lowest setting (disable speed-step) but not the highest. Dunno who would want to run it slow though...

Seems like you have got it sorted.
pkipper posted this thread a while back about a Centrino Utility that seem fairly useful. It might be worth a look. http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=376771 Cheers Pedro :-) Last edited by theyetti; 10th July 2005 at 8:19 PM. |
