Default Benq Joybook 7000 V37 any good?

I'm thinking of getting a new notebook and the things i'm looking for are the following:

lightweight
a bit of grunt.. eg. equivalent to a desktop running at 2Ghz+
good looking screen, and pretty high resolution.
good looking notebook in general
very good battery life
ability to play some recent games.

I've been looking at the Dell 9300 which has a great video card option, but geez.. the size of the laptop is huge, and is also very heavy, expensive, ugly, etc.

I've also been looking at the Benq Joybook 7000 V37 but the thing turning me off is the video card. The rest, eg. hard drive, memory, etc, I can increase, but the video card is the problem I think. Can someone advise what it would be like running something like HL2 etc.. I currently have a desktop at home of an AMD 2100+ with an X800 so i'd take a wild guess and say it won't look as nice, but how bad will it be?

Essentially, if I can get over the video card being a problem, I might jump at getting the notebook. I'm not a huge gamer, but during nightshift, or on occasion, I would like to do a bit of playing of half decent recent games.

Any suggestions?

As far as price.. I can afford up to around $3000, but if I find something worth the while that's more expensive, then i'll save up.

Geoff

Ps. I've just been looking at the Benq S72 V33 as well, and it looks a bit better.. what would it be like playing something like Doom3, HL2 etc?

I too was looking at that notebook and the LG one, but eventually I got an Asus W3V last week. It's great for me. If you go to the asus AU site, they actually have a list of retailers. You can try them for your needs. I bought mine outright from CWSydney. Took 1 day

The few quirks I have found on this notebook is that the battery calibration instruction is a bit vague and the 100Gb HDD is only the 4200RPM version

It comes with a Logitech (the older one) RF notebook wireless mouse and a carry bag as well (looks OK, but a bit impractical)

I sent an email to the Asus support email address and it was replied to within 24 hours (it was about the battery calibration) and it's got 2 years global warranty although I would not want to try it out

Very happy with my purchase

Do you have a WOW down where you live......they just introduced it the Darwin store, so I assume other WOW stores would stock it as well

What video card does the M6V come with. When I was doing my research, the best video card the M6 series had was an ATI 9100 (True it has 128Mb shared)

I went with the W3V because it came with an ATI X600, which I thought would provide better performance although it was only 64Mb non shared.

Wouldnt one of these Toshiba Tecra A4's be better than all these at least value for money wise?

(For less that $2500 it almost seems too good to be true, if I had the spare cash I'd snatch one up myself)

I looked at these for myself as well. It's great value for money. I was originally looking at a Sony Vaio S360, but they were not officially available here. I was specifically looking for a screen with a 1280x768 resolution as well as an under 15in size, but with a good video card so I had to pay extra for that (go figure)

I was using a 12in Powerbook before this, and was looking for a similar screen size.

I also think the Benq looks better and is ergonomically better than the Toshi, but that could be just me. The offset keyboard did annoy me on the Toshi.

Do note that if it is the Toshi I 'm thinking of, it's a discontinued model, and the video card is only a nVidia 6200.

They've got attrocious battery life, but if you're using it at a desk it'll be fine.
