How custom do you mean? Unique components and case designed as a one off? Being able to select processor, graphics, screen and such?

like are there any shops i want a laptop with "these specs", "this screen" and "this case" ??? or are they just customizable like Dell and Alienware???

Yeah baiscally your right most of the people that do it start with a barebone (chasis, motherboard and screen) and you can change the Ram CPU (from within a series) and hard drive. Thats the best you will get.

I'm guessing that any of you guys can change CPU, mem, hdd given a minimum of training.

As yet only Dell support video card changes on some units.

how about graphics card...the majority of laptops out there don't seem to have one.... where do u get these barebone thigns...and can u configure them online somewhere....

You already mentioned two of the biggest ones Alienware and Dell alot of people in Australia Re-sell the Notebooks ITC Sell do a google and you will find a stack of info. I work for digitalstar and we do some custom built machines.
