Default Retrofitting 7,200rpm laptop drives?

Just say you have an avg. Centrino unit with a 40Gb 4,200rpm drive.

If you replace it with a performance 7,200rpm laptop drive, what is the likely outcome of the higher thermal loading on the case fans?

And is it a worthwhile upgrade?

Sadly, this group now seems to be feeling pressure to change."
I drive a stock R33 non turbo automatic Skyline - 120kW at the wheels!

Default

I upgraded my 60GB 4200rpm with a 60gb 7200rpm

no problems at all with heat and noise. There is little bit more vibration, but nothing to worry about.

Battery life is the same as before.

Hi Tony, you could always install a 8MB Cache, 5400RPM Drive.

These are much faster and the newer ones, Seagate Momentus, etc. have thermal registers similar to a lot of 4200RPM Drives.

Cheers Pedro :-)
