I just built a new system for my brother which contains the follwoing ingredients:
Thermaltake Soprano with 400W PSU Abit 3rd-Eye 1x512mb DDR400 Geil LG DVD-RW 50x CDrom 20GB WD IDE 160GB Seagate SATA It boots up, i can get into bios. It detects both the CD Drives (which is currently plugged into IDE port 1), but won't detect the 20GB Hard Drive. It alos won't detect the SATA drive, it's got power and i can feel that it is operating. I've tried both SATA ports to no avail. I've also cleared CMOS too. What do i do?

You need to load the SATA driver, so hit F6 when the winxp cd takes control of the boot up and load the drivers with the driver disk before you do the install.
As for the IDE drive, check the jumpers on the back. Make sure it does not conflict with what the other IDE device is set to on the same channel. If you want further clarification just post what devices you have connected to what.

Just check the bios to make sure all raid features are disabled and that the bios' sata is enabled. You've probably already tried these, but it never hurts to suggest.
Have you tried the 20gb in the same port as your cd-drives? Maybe there's a problem with the other one. |

Update: I've switched the IDE channels, so it detects the 20gb and the CD drives.
Still having trouble detecting the SATA drive. With this SATA driver disk, do i need to have an OS going?
