Default Memory Timings

Memory Timings.
Just how important are they ?
In an overclocked,or standard PC,how much difference would it make to the system having "dialed in" the ramm ? is it worth it ? or are the standard timings fine to run with ?
Just curious as quite often in these pages people quote 2-2-2-5 etc ? and wondering if its worth doing (trying )

Well putting tighter timings in would see a performance increase, but I don't know whether it would be worth it in a "standard system". In an overclocked setup, you would see much better results. Of course, generic ram sometimes can't handle tight timings and will cause the pc to crash.

It's definitely worth trying, if your ram can handle those timings though. I find wondows is more responsive with tighter timings.

Standard timings are fine to run with if you want to do that, but if you want to tweak some more out of your system then tighten the timings.

Of all the RAM settings CAS latency (the first number) affects my system the most. There's a noticeable difference running at CAS 2 than CAS 2.5 - shorter boot time, programs start and run faster, games run smoother, etc etc.
Maybe if you increase your RAM voltage you can get it to run at CAS 2
