Gday,
Looking at purchasing simple camera for my other half and was looking at the Filjifilm A350. http://www.fujifilm.com.au/digital/c...mera.asp?id=48 Any thoughts on this camera or suggestions as to a better alternative. Price range is around $400-$450. Thanks in advance.

i'm not sure how much it is but the f10 should be a bit better...
if your other half takes lots of indoor shots? i'd go the f10. it's had nice writeups abouts it's low light performance; due to it's high iso ability (up to 1600); (with relatively little noise) it also uses the 6.3mp super ccd and it's macro mode looks very very nice. if you could stretch your budget a bit (f10 might be around $550-$600) id go for the f10.. if not the a350 will be good. check this forum out, have a search around for comments on the a350: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1012 if your want kind of a link between p&s and an slr you could try the fuji s5500(although it's a bit bigger). it has many extra features, including 37-370mm focal length (10x) 15sec-1/2000sec shutter speed lots of white balance, flash, quality settings, ect. i picked up an s5500 for $449 from myer and have no complaints.. takes great shots! only 4.2mp though. another one that might be good is the panasonic lumix fz2 (5mp, 6x optical zoom, image stabiliser) one thing to take into account is the extras you need.. a case, batteries and charger(?), xd memory (a little expensive compared to sd cards (around $199 retail for 1gb)) another 2 sites to check out are: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_forum.php?id=16 and http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_forum.php?id=16 happy shopping. |

The reason they go to iso 1600 is to compensate for their horribly slow lenses, some as slow as F6.3 wide open if I read the lens correctly. Had a customer in on sunday with very noisy prints at iso400, had to give him a crash course in camera basics.

If the A350 is anything like a the A340, stay away. shitbox. noisemaker. you'd be heaps better off buying disposable 35mm cameras!

Thanks for the responses.
I stayed away from the A350, and ended up going with an Olympus D595. It seemed to be the best of the bunch from what the local stores had on the shelf.
