Default Nintendo Revolution Controller

It's been revealed:

What do you think? Nintendo really seem to be trying for something new. Can't wait to get my hands on one and actually try it.

Looks fantastic, though I hope they aren't innovating for the sake of it and it actually makes games more fun (from that article I think it will )

It is indeed, I think Nintendo is really brave to make a new innovation with chance that it may not suit many people (as I read in whirlpool forum, people say bad thing for anything different from Playstation/Xbox /lol).

Hope it'll be up to the innovative standard like they did with DS

that sounds incredible for FPS's

I'd love to have a controller where I can point and shoot at a target, rather than seeing who is more used to a controller, it's more and more comparing who has the steady arm and physical skill required to taking on opponents in-game.

it may not be revolutionary (seems more evolutionary with something like that) but it's definitely a step in the right direction imho.

also, i note a distinct lack of buttons, how are they gonna deal with things like that for the games that the revolution can play (snes etc?) i'd speculate there's going to be more than just an analog stick attachment available which would be pretty funky...

EDIT:
but what about multiple controllers then? you'd have a lot of costing going towards...controllers. if it was a keyboard and mouse for a pc i could certainly justify the expenditure...whereas with the revolution you'd need to buy addons for each individual controller just to play a game?

Default Nintendo Revolution Revealed!!!

It seems it has been revealed! A wireless device that allows input from 3D space.

It doesn't really look impressive until you read what it can do - I'm looking forward to it now!

Unless they release another more conventional controller along side, they are basically writing off any relationships they had with 3rd party developers imo. Not that there are many developers supporting nintendo these days anyway.

Not a bad thing really as most of the gamecube games that are worth playing are nintendo anyway but I can't see it selling well outside japan (then again the gamecube didn't either)

It's a mighty gamble.

EDIT: Gamecube controller still works. Well it's got me sold then

I assume this is like light gun technology. If so, how will it go on new style displays. I know most rear projection, or projector setups are useless.

I could be wrong, but making this the only controller might limit your audience a bit.

Particularly on a console that appears to have no HD capabilities.

Looks interesting and makes me want to give it a shot but I can see it being REALLY irritating.

My first impression was: wtf?

Then I thought about it. That's the coolest thing I've seen for ages.

My prediction: They'll release a zelda where you'll be in first person view, and you'll hold the controllers like a sword and shield. I'm talking literally waving it around stabbing and blocking.

It's got some awesome potential if the games are built around the controller, particularly from the first person (Any one for tennis?), but it won't work so well for other games.

Ports from PC, 360 and/or PS3 for example are going to be in BIG trouble trying to work out how to fit the controls on to this thing in a logical fashion.

The porting argument is a bit shallow though

From all reports it seems it will be fully compatible with the Gamecube controller

So no doubt they will release a rehash of the wireless cube controller around release time which means companies can develop using the standard controller if required.

I mean lets face it the Xbox360 and PS3 controllers really are just rehashes off their older controllers.

I like it but then that's the fanboy in me talking... Seriously I've yet to use a single nintendo controller I didn't like (classic gameboy asside), and still think the n64's controler was a marvel in controler design... If Nintendo think this controler is up to the task then I'm sure it'll do a grand job of it, can't wait to get my grubby mits on it.

Probably the case.

Just a thought...does this remind anyone else of the powerglove from a concept standpoint?

Default That Is Soooooo Cool

I think this is the most awesome improvement i have seen to a console in ages. Its about time a company came up with this type of idea. I think this will make some games more fun if anything.

Yes, it does. But that's not a bad thing really, there was nothing wrong with the concept, just the implementation.
