I am also looking at getting the W5A series, in particular the W5010 model. From most of the reviews i have read, it suggests that this is a very good notebook.

When i was looking at the W5A, i was also considering two other notebooks from Asus, the S5200N and the M5N.

Are you after a portable notebook?
Because the W5A is a 12" portable and the V5 you quoted is a 14" screen.

I wish people would make affordable 12-13in notebooks with at least an X600 in it, and make it available in Australia

Oh well, bought a W3V a while ago

I have the W3V. Awesome battery life (8 hours with some conservation and the secondary bay battery), good compromise between portability, keyboard space (it's full size) and power.

My one gripe is the screen. From what I've heard and seen of the W5A this applies equally to the W3V's smaller cousin, which utilises a smaller panel of similar design (Fujitsu from memory). Although both models utilise one of those nice/evil (insert opinion here) glossy screens, it has an absolutely abysmal vertical viewing angle, terrible light leakage, washed out colours, and is exceedingly dim. Next to my 2405FPW (an unfair comparison perhaps), the difference is (literally) night and day. Whites look like greys, yellows are undersaturated, etc.

The W5A is an excellent laptop -- just be wary of the screen.

I've got a W3V as well (W3030V) My screen is pretty good. Comparable to my old Powerbook and even brighter. I've got the brightness at 50% and it is close to my Powerbook at full. Perhaps I don't have my eye in, but my white is white, although I have to concur that the vertical viewing angle is not the best. I compared this screen with a Sony S48 and did not find that much difference between the 2. Guess I was lucky with mine
