Im after a small PDA with GPS and i can use it as a mobile phone.
Is this possible? What makes/models can do this? Would $700 be enough?

You'ld probably be looking at a PDA/phone like the O2 XDA Mini, with either an SD or bluetooth GPS unit.

I would recommend getting a stand alone gps, I have heard of many many problems with using gps with mobile/pdas, especially the mini. (I currently have one)
If you only are really going to use it in the car, just get a cheap standalone one, the gps unit will cost you around $500 anyway, pay couple hundred extra and get the extra device. With the xda mini, you can pick one up for $850 from ebay stores, there where i found mine (imate jam i found was cheaper without the sd card)

The only one that has both GPS and phone functionality, as far as I know, is the HP hw6500 series:

I second the above. Mio A701 is easily one of the best GPS/Phones on the market.
I bought a HP 6965 first, but with shocking battery life (less than 120mins using GPS) and constant freezes, i took it back. I replaced it with the Mio A701. Simply put, theres not many units built this well (it is VERY solid), such a small footprint with such reliability etc. I've had Atoms, XDA's and such, and have never been a fan of windows mobiles for the reason of instability. So far, the Mio has yet to crash after 4 days of constant use.

I bought a HP3600 PDA with a HP3450 GPS sleeve, plus a screen mount and Navman Smart ST software / aussie maps all for $350.00 on ebay around 6 months ago. While it was a little tricky to set up, I have it working perfectly.
The only issue with using a PDA like this is if the battery goes flat, you lose the lot and have to reinstall / authenticate / register etc which is a pain. The 3600pda is a good one because it has a separate charging plug that works off the cigarette lighter.

Eten have a PDA/phone/GPS model; can't remember the precise model number at the moment though.

If the PDA is using Win Mobile 5.0, it should have the new solid state NVRAM meaning if it goes flat, it doesn't lose all of the settings.
Although its not a phone I use a Dell X51, and have falttened the battery completely a few times and only lost programs that were open at the time, just like losing power to a dekstop PC. All the software is still there.
