Default Free Aussie GPS?

One of my mates recently bought an HP Mobile Messenger from Singapore but wants me to help him out by finding some free (or cheap non-free) GPS software for Australia (obviously, this didn't come with the unit). Can anyone here point me in the right direction?

You wont get GPS maps for free. Cheapest I think is $200+, $500+ for routing.

Will Destinator work on an iPAQ mobile messenger? and can you legally install it on multiple PDAs?
