Question How Much RAM Do I Have

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...34-395732.html

Hi, I installed another 512MB of RAM into the above notebook, but System Properties and the BIOS is still telling me there is only 512MB total. Whilst CPU-Z is saying I have 1024MB.

I have removed, and installed the RAM again to ensure it is inserted correctly.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Or knows what program is telling the truth?

Thanks

Can you do a ctrl + alt + delte and go into task manager and then click on the Performance Tab and there should be a little box that says "Physical Memory (K) and under that "total" and a number it should say something like 1048048 if you have 1 GB of ram since that is in KB

I had this problem with a older compuer once, had to flash bioses and change ram slots 50 million times before windows would recognise both sticks.

And like you cpuz detected both but whats the point if windows can't utilize them .

So yeah i'd recommend swapping them around, maybe trying a different bios if you can find one.

Good luck

Well I just tried two different sticks of 512MB and Windows failed to detect both. Put in a stick of 256MB and Windows detected it fine. Perhaps my notebook only supports up to 768MB? That may explain why all the other configurations on eBay only went up to 768MB.

Are the sticks of ram you are testing the same as the one in there as HP's are very fussy about the ram you put in them

Cheers

ddr or sdram? moust computers have problems detecting different Mhz for sdram. new computer? possibly and incompability with ram Mhz again check for 333mhz, 400 mhz etc. other than that ram could be faulty, faulty ram causes all sorts of problems.

i've seen a cook ram before haha, looked fried, felt like paper.
