Default thinkpad t20 dvd help

Hey all...

I'd post in the newbie forum but I think I'll risk getting flamed in the hope that I'll get the question answered.

I bought the thinkpad t20 this morning and I can't seem to get the dvd drive working. DVD don't read and/or play. I installed media player classic and that doesn't seem to work. I figured it would be the codecs, so I installed the klite codec pack and that didn't seem to work either.

I'd really like to get this working asap. Any help would be great. Is there an option I need to check? Could it be conflicting with the PCMCIA netgear card(probably not because it doesn't work with or without it)?

It actually worked this morning when I picked it up from the store.

What OS are you running?

Does it 'see' the DVD when its inserted? My old laptop had a problem in that it only read DVDs and not CDs because the laser was dying, could be the problem.

Came with Win2k but I think I'll be installing Ubuntu at some point.

I managed to get the original DVDs working. It was just a matter of reinstalling the software. I was also trying to play ripped DVD copies and I don't think that this drive can support them. I'm sure that there's a way around but I'd rather not get banned for asking about it.

Thanks.

If you look at the drive's specifications (if you remove the drive from the ultrabay slot) there should be some info you can google to find out weither or not your can read the discs.

Depending on the media it may not be able to be read. For example I have a T40 with a DVD drive which can read -r media, but not +r.
