Default V1000 and the 3D Galaxy

The 3D Galaxy was an impulsive buy with my office football tipping winnings, I then spent 3 months wondering how to fit it all together. Finally the time came and out came the battery drill, along with about 30 rivets.

Next step was to cut away some of the front fan bracing.

And then mount 2 80mm fans up front. Its tougher than it looks with brackets holding everything together, made from the offcuts.

The rad was then bolted to the fans, all the holes lined up nicely, almost like somebody had designed this to bolt to 2 fans.

And the divider plate was then cut to fit. Im replacing the rivets with small bolts to allow for easier removal next time.

The divider plate was again cut to allow better access to the Res. Although the pics dont show it, I wasnt able to reuse the hdd tray that came with the case, about 10mm to wide to fit underneath with the pump. I did find an old case in the shed though, and that hdd tray fitted perfectly.

Time to bolt everything back together, all the wiring is hidden on the other side, but way to messy to be shown in such an exclusive forum as this.

Working, no leaks, Im happy with my first water cooler.

Next update I will have the Silverstone fan controller working, with the rtds installed better (so they dont all read just a few degress of ambient), another hdd and a few pics of the backside wiring. Im also going to replace the front fans with some new "glow blue in the dark" ones, and make sure they all run as slow as possible. Then its time for the window mod, which Im dreading

Don't do a dodgey and DIY a window mod, the V100's proper window is excellent, no ugly rivets in sight. (I should know I have one)

I agree!

You dont want to do a modding gamble on such a good sidepanel. Exept for that it all looks good.

Ok you have talked me into it, no dodgy home-made window mod, I will place the order shortly for the V1000 window so Santa has time to drop it under the tree. One question though, can hard drives be mounted horizontally (ie on their side)? Im thinking I can mod the hdd tray and insert it sideways for 2 drives but wonder if thats OK!

It shouldnt present a problem at all.

Harddrives are normally mounted the other way, just so the intake fans can blow over then.

Update time - fixing a few dumb ideas, and a new hard drive bay.

First lessons learnt - never pass a water pipe through a hole, always make it so the main components can be easily dropped out of the case for draining. Thank god the V1000 had so many holes for the water to drain out.

With no machine shop handy, a drill and file were first used for a few cuts. Its a slow process, but the metal is soft, and Im patient.

Now that unused floppy bay caddy looks perfect, along with one of the spare hdd bays...

Fits perfectly, even a few of the holes line up, which is a bonus as they are threaded.

Bolt it all together, I needed a piece of perspex to raise the hdd caddy a few mm.

The finished job, Im stoked with the look too. The hdds can be easily mounted from either end by reversing the hdd caddy, but I decided I didnt need to see the wiring.

The finished mod, now to start saving some pennies for a 2nd hdd, one of those new clear top raptors would be fantastic, else a hdd window mod could be next.

And finally the V1000 window, although I must admit Im tired of the blue fans already. Add a new waterblock to the shopping list. I have also tried to clean the wiring a little since its all on display, but this will do for a few more months.
