I've just ordered 3 P4 630's chips, and I've already got 3 intel motherboards and 6 sticks of Kingmax DDR ram and 3 cases etc.
The systems will only be running at stock speeds and will be dedicated folding boxen (replacing some older boxen... which won't be turned off until our summer OCAU folding shortage is over). They will be running 24/7 in the spare store room with some other folding boxen (the room isn't well ventilated, which I have to do something about, but probably won't have time to until mid jan). The P4's come with the stock HSF units. Given that they will be running at stock speeds do I need an aftermarket cooler to maintain stability for folding? How hot do 630's run? I know that P4's run hotter than the AMD's I'm more familiar with, and our other P4's are in better ventilated air conditioned areas. I don't really want to have to try the stock HSF units and then have to dissasemble the 3 systems if they are running too hot (lack of time). I would assume the stock HSF units are fine for normal use, but I'm not sure about 24/7 folding in a warm area. *comments welcome*

geoff i have a bank of 6 P4s all cases hard up against each other
to keep temps down i have a cases with a 120mm intake fan blowing across the HD. to help air flow the stock grill is cut out and run with the front cover off and a guard coveing the fan. A blanking plate covers the drive bays. stop and reset buttons are on expansion card blanking plates so all funstions are accessed from the back. with 14 PCs in a small room I have fitted a ceiling exhaust fan to suck the hot air out. $20 for cheap ventilation. any way to get to the point all run OK with stock HSF but need regular cleaning of dust and fluff. hard drives are below 30*C and CPUs les than 50*C, this was with cooler weather though, I have not been game to check lately a badly ventilated case will bring the best of HSFs un done. The best case I have used is a Coolermaster Centurion 5, no need to leave the front cover off or cut anything away, roughly $115 to $130 with 380W PSU S*

You can also buy the Centurion 5 w/o PSU for around $80 as well... the only thing I dont like about it is only 80mm fan at the front but fortunately 120mm at the back. Teddy

The store room door needs to be kept closed (because there is other stuff like long term store records), but one of those vent grills in the door would be ok. Maybe that roof vent fan you suggested combined with a low mounted door vent... then cooler air would be sucked in from the airconditioned office area and then hot air pushed out the exhaust fan so the store room would get some of the benifit of the air con. Even 5 degrees cooler in the room would be a help on hot days

I was setting up the wireless and a few other things on the daughters new laptop the other day. Had it sitting on the desk for a few hours folding when the missus caught me. "YOU PUT THAT BACK IN IT'S BOX RIGHT NOW SO I CAN WRAP IT UP"
Sheesh.
