Default Very High end laptop

Im looking for a very high end laptop, but iv got very little idea of what companies meet my needs im looking at spending up to 5k AU and iv been looking at companies such as alienware because its the only one i know off who does such high end laptops

I also saw the review linked on overclockers main page for http://www.itchannel.com.au/
They have better prices and would probably be able to get more for my buck but i dont think they sell to the public im not sure if anyone could clarify that would be awesome

Im looking for any recomendations of companies to look into who make very high end custoisable laptops

You could Google around for what you are looking for. Here's some good ones I've seen. http://www.pugetsystems.com and http://www.falcon-nw.com (they seem reputable enough). BTW, Alienware has been known for terrible customer service in some cases including their system never arriving. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1650.html

A mate of mine got one of one of these Alienware gaming laptops. He's very happy with it so far. Purchased about a year ago now i think.

Has very nice screen on it.

I know the Alienware is just re-badged other laptop manufacturer, but i forget which one.

I too was considering a laptop of similar spec, so please let us know how you go

If you can, i'd wait for dual core laptops which are due out in Feb.

A Dell Inspiron 9300 fully decked out, plus a 7800go shipped from the states would probably be under $5k and would be pretty darn good, as it would still be reasonably portable.

Otherwise, something like the ITBOX S610 (Clevo D900T) as it comes with the 7800go:
http://www.itbox.com.au/catalog/inde...sort=4a&page=2

Lastly, it depends what you mean by high end. Do you want high end cpu and ram, or does a video card also matter? Does it need to be very portable with long battery life? Or will it stay plugged in most of the time? The alienwares and other D900Ts are very powerful, but are big, heavy, and dont last long on battery.

The Dell 9300 (if you get a 7800go shipped over) or the ITBOX S810 or the Metabox 730s may be the picks of the bunch as they have a Pentium M (fast and long battery life), as well as a 7800.

Also check out www.p4laptops.com.au for their 7800gtx laptops.

Battery power isnt a concern im going to keep it plugged in 99% of the time

i was just looking at the S610 as you wrote that out at:
http://www.itbox.com.au/catalog/prod...oducts_id=1269
which is nice cause its just down the street from me iv sent them a email as that is the only laptop on their site that i wasnt able to customize, would like some more ram in it, so i await that reply

Right now im a little confused the metabox 740s is not a M processor as you stated but it is very similar to the S610 but cheaper and in this case allows me to customize it to everything i want i cant see anything wrong with perhaps goign with this option

an issue i have run across i intend to install XP pro when i get my laptop, assuming it doesnt come with an already done installation, but a problem im considering is SATA drivers, i wasnt intending on gettin a usb connected flopyy drive and some motherboards iv heard dont need a flopyy drive anymore can anyone confirm or provide any advice, because usb floppy drives the cheapest i found was 80 dollars and i find it quite a waste of cash

If you know anyone who is purchasing a dell laptop, you could get them to get an external floppy drive for $40.

Intel chipset SATA doesn't need a floppy disk for drivers, and a lot of notebook HDD's arent SATA yet anyway (the cost is prohibitive from what I understand).
