My god that's a lot to spend on a notebook.

Just buy a ~3.5k one, with a 7800gtx go.

Then you have plenty of money for something else.

i dont think he was asking if he's wasting his money, and considering he's quite willing to spend his 8 thousand dollars on the notebook, i dont think everyone should jump on the "dont buy alienware cause they overpriced" bandwagon

I think advice on quality of alienware and their service, and the functionality to do what he's after is the kind of reply he's after.

as for me, i dont know about alienware but they look kinda nice. most other laptops dont come with the kind of components in them either.. i mean, raid 80gb hdds, thats just amazing.

i want a laptop that the program AVID (www.avid.com) has qualified as one of there workstations as they will not support a machine that if the program doesnt work or there are conflicts with the chipset ect

there are only 4 or 5 laptops 2 choose from and alienware seams VERY well priced for what you are getting as avid qualified laptops are concerd

and ontop of that they off long warranty (which is also an international warranty)

As mentioned above the alienware are overpriced..but very few other manufacturers offer that kind of raw power. That said, if you have 8 grand to spend it may as well be a beast

Have a look at the "whitebook" alienware notebooks though..virtually identical specs and a fair bit cheaper [warranty probably better with alienware though, ignoring the sometimes 2 month delivery wait?]

http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-740s-special.htm

3.6gb, 2gb ram, Go 7800gtx, 160gb total in RAID 0, dvd+/-rw, 17in widescreen, wireless/bluetooth, xp etc...can't really go wrong there - and only $4 300

Good luck with it
