Default dead pixels considered faulty?

i bought a brand new compaq presario from harvey norman today and when i brought it home and turned it on i found that it had a dead pixel

i asked a friend and he said that unless there are more than 3 dead pixels that i'm left high and dry because warranty won't cover it and i wont get a replacement

is this right? i feel pretty ripped off having paid full price for something that is essentially considered faulty and sold at very discounted prices elsewhere.

Check your warranty policy, but you may be left up the creek. Alternatively, check HN's money back guarantee, I know at officeworks you have 30 days to return it if you're not happy with the product. Return for a refund maybe?

dont ask DEMAND. Like id go in there and dont take no for an answer. If they dont have the exact one in stock see if they will give you the next model up or the equivelant in another brand although thats highly highly unlikely.

IF they wont replace it get your money back and buy it from another store.

You guys don't seem to understand. A dead pixel is a manufacturing limitation of LCD's. If there's a specific clause pertaining to dead pixels in the warranty of the notebook he may not be entitled to a replacement.

update:
went in today and was able to swap it for a new one

the manager did say that compaq doesnt recognise dead pixels as a fault per-se as they claim its just a manufacturing limitation of LCDs

oh well.. i posted in my cash back and they better give it to me even though the receipt says "returned" and not exchanged.

Whats good for some, isn't for others. I'm ok with a dead pixel near the bezel of the screen, but if its smack bang in the centre, it really annoys me. Even more annoying are bright pixels.
