Unhappy memory not working

Guys I bought 2 sodimm Pc3200 sticks(ebay sold as new although I have my doubts

each 1GB
and it doesn't work at start up it only beeps no visual etc. no boot

the laptop is rated as a pc2700 although many people are using pc3200 in them according to what I have read in other forums

a
is the memorysticks dodgy (dead) beeping noise

b
is it a compatability issue using one original 256mb pc 2700 and a second 1Gb pc3200(what I mean is do I have to have both 1GB pc3200 inserted

the notebook is an acer ferrari 3200

What brand of memory is it? What are the specs?

The Acer 3000 series supports PC3200. It could just be it is not compaitable with your system.

Can you test them in another notebook?

hmmm... bad move.. if they were new... and from the same person... you would expect two of the same sticks...

Why on earth would anybody sell 1gig stick secondhand... there is nothing higher to upgrade to....

hmmm... is an A64 system... might explain some of your problems... although unlikely... I find all my A64 desktop systems far pickier with ram...

Thank god for Centrino and DDR2 (where Corsair 1gig sticks are sub $136 new)

Previous this was the case with the sdram based notebooks... but with the advent of ddr and ddr2... there appear to be very very few compatibility problems now...

The majority of noteboks are intel / centrino based and they seem accept just about anything thrown at them...
