Default Toshiba Tecra Video out - video screen black/blank

Hi

I have recently bought a second hand Tecra and can do video out easily enough but when I try to play a DVD or even most video files the video window appears blank/black. Anyone know a way around this? I want to use my laptop as a dvd player if I am travelling.

The video card it has is a NVidia Geforce 420 GO from memory. I havea feeling it may be macrovision causing it but why would it do it with avi files captured on a digital camera aswell?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Thought I'd add myself to the list with the same problem except on an external monitor.

I got a Toshiba Tecra with an NVidia Geforce FX.

When playing a DVD the window with the DVD window is black.

My thoughts have been towards driver.... but ??

Are you guys trying to output the video to both the laptop screen and an external monitor at the same time ?

Cheers

When I tried I did have it going on the laptop and the tv set.

Everything worked, even games, but no video.

Most of the toshiba range that I have worked on, and there are a lot of them, arent able to support simultaneous output to both the laptop screen and an external monitor, try the two screens independantly and then let me know.
BTW, I spent the last 7 years as a toshiba procare repairer of sorts

Cheers

Video overlay will only work on one screen. Usally the LCD is the master. When using dual screen mode (LCD+TV), set the TV to the master and the video will work. Otherwise only use TV as the monitor.

Thanks all for your help. I figured it out tonight.

I have also found VLC Player works the best.

You were both right about the dual screens not working with video.
