I take pride in my aircooling. Buy a cooling mat--I got one from Walmart and it lowered temps about 10 degrees. Also, if ya got a free pcmcia slot, a a pcmcia cooler. Its a fan tht takes outside air in. Also, clean out your heatsinks! I learned that the hard way! (I burned my mobo.. thank god it was under warranty!)

A notebook generally has 1 to 2 cooling fans.
1 for the CPU heatsink, and 1 for the GPU heatsink if your notebook has a powerful video card.

I havent used a laptop cooler before but my friend has the Vantec one on his Dell i8600. He said it didnt do much to the actual CPU/GPU/HDD temps (i think it helped by a couple of degrees C) but it did cool down the base of the notebook.
I just raise my notebook a little so that it breaths better.

I personally dont think you need a notebook cooler as the notebook should have a proper cooling design built into it.

PCMCIA coolers are a rare breed, possibly extinct, but getting a cooling pad for the bottom is prob the best you can do. It lowered mine about 8C, and guess what! A laptop that is tolerable on your LAP's TOP. As for internal cooling... If you're desperate you can talk about a watercooled laptop, i made a thread for that http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=439867 or instead you can open up everything and add a new thermal paste (I got a dell that has thermal pads on top of my high-powered chips, which are worse than pastes, I think the best you can get, thats still pretty darn cheap, is called Arctic Cool or something like that) As for HDD temps, I've decided to cut a hole in my case to allow passive cooling... Cases are usually metal and metal conducts heat in most cases, and that heat is transferred to my hand which = BURN!!!

Mind tellin us ur laptop make and model? That can help us remedy your problem.

Well, I have a little laptop that has a fan on the CPU and one to cool the CDROM. (Yes, that;s right, it's a Presario 700.)

Whilst it does help to have a cooling pad, they are often very loud, not all that fun to carry about, and usually have minimal effects. IMHO they are a gimmick.

there has to be some mods out there to put in extra fans into the laptop...

but ive never seen fans small enough to tuck away inside laptop spaces...

Have you considered undervolting instead? (assuming you're not already overvolting to overclock)

I undervolted my lappy (see sig) using RMClock - temps are down and CPU fan practically never leaves the quietest speed

It is an option, and it's free.

As an idea, my standard max and min EIST settings were 1.34V@1.7GHz and 0.988V@600MHz - I'm now running at 0.988V@1.7GHz and 0.7V@600MHz, and it's completely stable.

(It froze with 0.952@1.7, so had to bump it up a bit)
