Well I've found a standalone Mac program that plays Vorbis and Flac files gaplessly: Play.

It's pretty good. It doesn't seem to play Lame "gapless" MP3s gaplessly though.

You don't need Macports installed like you do for MPD. And you can drag files across from the Finder without adding them to your library.

It's not as slick as Theremin and MPD though. I've kept it around for quickly playing files without adding them to the library.

Winamp 5.5 now comes with built-in ipod support. It's not hard to learn, either. :P

I'm getting shitty. Trying to put songs onto the bloody Shuffle I bought and it's been a drama.

iTunes installs and when you go to open it nothing comes up. It's in the task manager but no bloody program shows.

I tried Yamipod which installs and shows itself but when I try to drag and drop the fucking thing crashes.

How bloody difficult is it to use this little shit of a thing.

Edit: Thank Christ for Winamp.

One thing I really really want to be able to do with itunes...is ENQUE...I want to be able to be listening to a track, then decide i really want to listen to another track or 5 other tracks at the end of the current one and then make that happen...

How, please, tell me how?

Playlists and partyshuffle certainly do not cut it. I want spontanious enqueing, not to have to search for a song and drag it to a playlist...

Party shuffle, just make it so it doesnt automatically choose songs for you, then you just right click on the song you want and go:

Add to party shuffle (to add to bottom of the list) or add next to party shuffle (plays as the next song in party shuffle moves all other songs down 1)

It really kicks arse!

Can you make iTunes add mp3 and wma files files to your library without converting the bloody things to mp4s? And can you then sync them to the ipod?

GF got an iPod Nano, and has previously ripped all her CDs to WMP media library thing (as WMA, of course) and also has some MP3s, iTunes says to import them would take over 4 days.

MP3s are fine (all of mine are anyway, over 30GB), but it has to re-encode WMA.

Might be more convenient to run a WMA-to-MP3 converter in bulk... at leat that way you'll end up with something (relatively) cross platform.

BTW, winamp's still my choice for ipod synching. I use itunes to manage my podcasts because it's the only app that does a decent job. Apparently the latest winamp is meant to improve how it does it, so I might finally be able to piss itunes off for good.

Hi guys,

got an ipod classic 80gig for my 17th b'day the other day.

Now i have my laptop, and all my music etc is on my hard drives which is located on another PC on the network.

What would be the best program to use so i can access the music on the other PC on my lappy?

While itunes sounds good and all, i have a few problems;
  • Will it do/access files over the network?
  • Does it auto update files?
  • If none of the above, can i get add-on's or something for it?

Finally, i will be syncing video's elsewhere, so does itunes have options where it can just add files to the ipod, and not remove ones noton the library?

thanks guys

rhys
