Just today acquired a HP Jornada 540 and I'm not ashamed to say I'm totally lost.
I have managed so far to enter in my details and I've had look around. I have also installed ActiveSync and gotten the pda and the desktop to sync no probs. The problem I'm having is installing third party programs. I went to Handango and checked out what programs are compatible with my pda, but when I try and install them from the desktop I get this error I have also tried to transfer the files to the pda itself and get it to install that way but no luck. Can anyone help me here?

[edit] sorry response was probably a bit short, had a few wines
In essence, the 540 is too old, ie manufactured around 2000. most pda products I've tried seem to to work if the SW is 'newer' than 2003, or the hardware is 'newer' than 2003, then you should not have a problem with any software. sorry, maybe they have an older version if you send them an email. Or best bet is to talk to the supplier of the SW, thats what I normally do, and I have over a hundred different packages on my pda.

you could grab a jornada 568 off ebay, it should be compatible and you can pick them up cheap as.

I could only wish that the budget could afford an upgrade but it simply can't so I'm stuck with what I've got for now
Whats annoying me is that the handango site claimed that these programs are compatible with the 540. Is there another website out there that I can check the compatibility with? I don't mind having to use older versions of programs if I have to. I just want to work out how to install a program full stop at the moment! How do I check what version of windows its running? And what is SW? Sorry about the questions. I can fling about my desktop blindfolded but this new toy has me stumped!
