Default Can you upgrade notebook components?

It might sound like a dumb question, but I dont have that much experience with notebooks.

Is it possible to upgrade notebook components eg cpu, ram, hdd, and especially the graphics chip? I have a X700 radeon chip in my notebook and was wodnering if in the future will i be able to upgrade it?

thanks

On some Dells, you can upgrade, but only to what Dell can supply.

Yes and no, it all depends on your notebook.

I think every laptop will allow you to upgrade your hdd, provided it uses the same connector and the bios supports it.

Ram is also almost always upgradeable. How much depends on how many slots you have (usually two) and what size dimms it supports. Most notebooks/laptops/whatever you call em support only 1gb dimms, i have seen any 2gb dimms for laptops for sale anyway.

Cpu's are also usually upgradeable depending on bios and motherboard support. General rule of thumb is if you can buy the same model notebook, with a higher spec cpu, you can most likely upgrade it.

Graphics Cards are where it gets tricky. My Dell 9300 can take a 7800go gtx, but i have to use a more powerful power brick and a bios mod to do it. Plus it has to be ordered from dell as they use a variant of the mxm format. Other laptops, im not sure. They may well use the mxm format, but you have to find one first that you can buy, then you have to make sure the bios will support it, and that the cooling and voltages supplied are sufficient.
