We would all be wise to wait a month or 2 before upgrading to see the coming new Platform from AMD, New cards from ATI and Nvidia, and the introduction of DDR2 ( for AMD ).

for those still Happy with AGP youre probably In a good positon, as all of us who went to 939 in its latter stages, now have yet to see socket AM2 come and eat Up all our Value.

I say if you can get away with Just Buying a Vid card for the next 6 months, its a good move because of whats Just round the corner, it will give you time to research your Big Upgrade ( new Platform )

Over the last 4 months Ive spent around 3.5k On My computer ( upgrading etc ) and it still types this message as fast as My Old AXP.

IN games I had a vanilla 6800 and it was JUST as good ( well almost ) as My 7800GT at Playing BF2.

so yeah.. dont get caught up in the Upgrade Hype. Just get what you can afford and PLEASE be happy with it.

That’s what I've been saying to all my friends and who ever asks me, seriously there is no need to upgrade just yet.

I'm still sitting on a 875 platform and an x800 xt pe as its fast enough for all games but a 7800gs would be nice to have sm 3.0 and it still would be fast enough for another 1 - 2 years.

The point is the software houses are always running 2 - 3 years behind technology, ok they might implement a new shader later down the track but it still can be run on a older machine at with all the candy on and at a resolution like 1280 x 1024.

I'm just waiting on a few benchmarks from a retail card and I'll be upgrading to a 7800gs unless ATI decide to throw something into the market.

I really can't see ATI giving away a good thriving part of the market to nvidia.

Sapphire ships Radeon X1600PRO AGP

~$350?

500MHz core with 800MHz memory, 256MB DDR2, DVI, TV-out, AGP ,supports Avivo...which means a nice HDTV playback, full support for Shader model 3.0 features, resolutions as high as 2560x1600 via dual-link DVI.
AFAIK this has only 4 pipelines, where are the faster cards ATI?

yes but the x1600 is much slower than the x800 so why downgrade, where as the 7800gs is faster than the x800 xt pe even the x850 xt can't keep up.

Still about $80 more than I want to pay for a vid card. Still, I'll check out the AnandTech review now, could be useful for the LAN coming up soon

That is very expensive, I think I will settle for a 6800GS AGP.

heh same price premium as most agp cards, essentially cheaper to upgrade to a pci-e board than get one
