Default Bios says 700mhz, win2k says 550hmz...which is right?

just having a muck around with my compaq armada e500, and in the bios, it says the laptop has a p3 700 cpu in it, whilst in win2k/CPUZ 1.31, it only says 550hmz. now i've turned off any step speed crap in the bios already

which is right?????

ignore them both.
run sandra and see where you results lie relative to a p3 700 and 550.

Speedstep.

I've got a p3/1000 and everything reports my cpu as ~700. When you do something intensive it throttles back up to full speed.

Sometimes it doesnt work with P3 Speed step technology, I used to referb Dell Lappys and some no matter what you set in the Bios, windows will still take over

I had this problem with a P3 1Ghz Dell Latitude I even took the CPU out and checked it, it wouldnt report full speed no matter what, but the intel utilty said it was a P3 1000Mhz CPU with Speedstep activated even though I had set it to full performance in the Bios

Hop this info helps

i think from memory winxp has speed step by default so perhaps its in w2k as well. but yeah run a stress test with having cpu-z going and see if it changes.
