Core Duo and Core Solo use a Socket 479 platform, but due to pin arrangement and new chipset functions are not compatible with any previous Pentium M or Centrino Motherboard.

Yes. This was one of their key strategies, power consumption and thermal dissipation. They have done wonders to reduce both of these factors in the new processors, and I think it is pointless running one of them in a tablet anyway. Nobody uses those things lol!

I have seen people at uni using laptops and they never seem to be able to use them right. They are to fiddly, a pad and paper beats the laptop any day. Why bother with something that so closely resembles a pc?

But those using tablets seem to have it all figured, the dowload the lecture slides (most times they are pdf) and write all over them as if they had printed them out. This is smick as. They can easily save there notes etc in a trouble free environment. Now this seems practical and totally different from a pc

I was mainly thinking quad duo because i figured i would get battery life and decent performance... i mean who wants a 1ghz ulw cpu? too slow.

I emailed toshiba about there new m400 and they said (i note the tablet is in the portege range??):
