Fantastic shots, not a fan of the 'single guy in a sea of green 2-5' though; prefer the ones that put it a little more in context.

Yeah, i understand that. From the angle I was sitting at for those shots, most of the frame would be filled with green. I quite liked some of those shots though.. I thought the green all around them made the players stand out

I wish I had a 70-200mm f2.8 though. Could have used some more background blur in some of my shots. Someday....

Well, gotta go to bed... I'll look through my stash of photos from the Open tomorrow and post some more.

Nice shots Mike. Thanks for sharing them.

I think the Nalbandian shot and the Federer serve are my favourites.

Excellent shots Mike!

Btw I was wondering, what kind of pass or permission do you need to be amongst those Pro photographers covering the event? How would one go about getting a press pass even though you're an amatuer/hobbyist wanting to get some close up shots?

Sorry, can't help you with that... I was shooting from the stands with normal tickets. I don't think I amateurs/hobbyists can get a press pass. Bman2 posted some info regarding this in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...7&page=3&pp=15
And Dinuc mentioned he got a media pass in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=444383
They would have a better idea of how to get one.

If you are watching in Vodafone Arena on a ground pass, you can actually get almost as close to the court as the pro photogs if you don't mind the sun. That's how I got the Nalbandian, Ferrero and Hingis photos. On Rod Laver, all seats are reserved, so you can't get that close (unless you got really good tickets). But I did reasonably well with my 70-200mm + 1.4x TC. Some of these shots were taken from the highest row in Rod Laver .

Nice shots mike

This is probably complete bullshit, but, I was told by an employee at Ted's that all you need to get a media pass is some kind of photographic certificate/diploma etc, which means you could go and do a 6 week basic photography course and get media passes to any event you want.

Thanks for shedding some light Mike! It would certainly be interesting and a fun experience to get in with a media pass.

mute, if that were true then it might be worthwhile sitting for a course in any one of the many photography disciplines available . I for one have not been to any courses or workshops and there's so much to learn!
