Heh. Don't mind me, I'm just Mr. Anti-Mainstream. Music, movies, software, video games - if it's popular, I probably hate it. That extends to fighting game characters too. All my favourites are plucked out of mid and low tier.

Q and Hugo are currently my two 3S faves. I've seen some crazy Necro play out there, and I want to dedicate some time to him and Sean as well.
![]() Agreed. I'd like to see that as an option in online play of fighting games.

Does puzzle fighter count as a fighting game
?How close is Marvel on PS2; broken or just off a bit? I want to try it out since seeing the Evo stuff. I can't justify getting a Dreamcast + sticks for one possibly two games if you include CvS2 at this stage however. But if I like it and get a DC for it I'd rather not find out they are very different games.

I love my competitive puzzle games too. Super Poyu Puyo on SNES, and Puyo Puyo Fever on PS2 are great. But no.. not fighting games.
![]() I've played it only briefly, and it felt a bit different combo/timing wise. It needs to be said that I suck at it, so I'm certainly not the best judge of it. The sound is definitely off by a mile, not that it's the most important thing or anything. As usual, for light casual play it's good enough (same thing I tell people who play 3S on DC), but if you were in it for serious competition, you'd probably avoid it. I don't own an XBox, but I've heard the Xbox port of MvC2 is better than the PS2 port. Bizzarely enough it doesn't have online play (much to the anger of many XBox live players). But if you've only got a PS2 and already have sticks for it and aren't planning on entering any MvC2 tourneys, then it's "good enough". ![]() [edit] SRK discussion here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=104401

Assuming you're only interested in legit copies of games, the PS2 MvC2 goes for $90-$100 on ebay. Whereas a DC and MvC2 would go for the same price.

. Well before their server got overloaded.Just realised since my sticks still aren't finished when I wire them up I can just try out breakout boxes or dual PCB instead of converters. Will need to investigate. Hopefully I can get my sticks finished within the next two weeks during study break, main problem recently has been a lack of time and a lack of a normal power drill. I have a drill press but the normal power drill was broken recently.

So if I want to setup a variety of fighters on the home entertainment rig i'll be building soonish, can someone simplify it by telling me which platforms are best for these games?
MvC2 SF3S SF Alpha Collection (and any other recommendations?) I know the data is in this thread somewhere, but serarching 20+ pages doesn't appeal to me =/ I'll likely be getting sticks constructed and such if that is at all a consideration. -Andy |

There are arcade perfect roms that will run on MAME for all of those games, I'd say its probably the best way to go if you are using an emulator.
SF Alpha Collection is also on PS2, SF3S and MCV2 are best on a Dreamcast IMO, although Elvis has a copy of SF3S on the PS2 if I remember correctly.

For all those games your best bet is a PS2 but you won't be able to get away with not modifying it in some way because 3S (Anniversary Collection) never saw a PAL release. Alpha Anthology is only on PS2 so you may as well resign yourself to getting one just for that. 3S is not arcade perfect on Dreamcast but the Naomi games like CvS2 and MvC2 run best on DC since the hardware is so close. |

Xbox version of Street Fighter III: Third Strike is not arcade perfect. There are timing issues.
BUT, it's the only version currently available for PAL gamers. Even then, it's rare as hens teeth. ![]() SF3:3S on PS2 comes with SF2:Anniversary Edition US VERSION ONLY, or standalone in the Japanese version. Neither of which will work on a PAL PS2 without modding. While I 100% urge people to pay for games and do the right thing, 3S is now available via MAME, and thanks to that makes it arcade perfect (because it *IS* the arcade game). Given that there are no other options for PAL gamers to play this game, I don't feel so bad recommending that. Quote:
SF3:3S - MAME (Best), PS2 (NTSC-only - best), XBox, DC SF Alpha Collection/Anthology - MAME, PS2 (PS2 version is arcade perfect, and has extra stuff not in the arcade version as a bonus) Other recommendations: 2D: SvC2 - DC (Best), PS2, XBox Guilty Gear XX Slash - PS2 Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - PS2 (and maybe Wii soon) Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo - MAME, Capcom Classics Collection 2 on PS2 Melty Blood - PC, PS2 (NTSC/J only) Arcana Heart - PS2 (NTSC/J only) - coming this month 3D: Tekken 5 (PS2 - includes Tekken 1, 2, 3 on the same disk!) Tekken 5.1 Dark Resurrection (PS3) As it stands, the PS2 is probably the best "all rounder" console to get for fighting games (although modding it is necessary to play imports). I own a PS2, DC and MAME cabinet, and that covers everything bar Tekken 5.1.

With some effort, you can do things in MAME like turn on infinite life cheats and change the time limit to be infinite also through the game config (press F2). That will enable a quasi training mode, but you still lose neat features like dummy auto-blocking and programming, both of which are very useful for training.
