No sir, that is exactly what Japanese TV is like 99% of the time. Japanese television commercials in particular can be quite bizzare, not to mention some of their variety shows and TV personalities who are even weirder (I'll try and find a link to that big gay guy who wears biker leathers and humps innocent people all the time...).
