Default powerbook memory

for those guys who have 1gb sticks in their powerbooks, what brand and speed were they?
i know theres corsair system select 333 but the 400 alternative is quite a bit cheaper, just not sure if it'll work or not. anyone care to shed any light on this?

You'll have no issues running Corsair DDR400 in your Powerbook (which I assume takes DDR333 RAM?). It'll just run at 333Mhz.

Good quality RAM - eg. Corsair, Kingston, etc. rarely has issues running in Macs. It's the cheaper stuff, or "overclocking friendly" modules with weird timings that cause problems.

Yeah, Any good name memory is fine. It will run at whatever clock speed the machine can run it at

I use kingston in my powerbook.

Not sure about that one... I had a stick of Kingston 512mb... and it certainly didn't like it (only recognised half of it). The stick definitely worked in my sister's PC lappy though.

I asked a mate who works @ Apple and he recommended to stick with Samsung chips. Corsair uses Samsung chips as well from what I've been reading.

Weird,
What if you removed the other stick of RAM?

Didn't matter. Even with just the Kingston, it only recognised 1/2 of it again. Regardless of slot as well.

Powerbooks are extremely picky with ram. Im onto my 2nd lot of ram in mine and its not liking it too much so I finally gave up and ordered some from Crucial (www.crucial.com) who most people tend to recommend for powerbooks.

Was it double sided? Probably didn't like it.

The current 512Mb Samsung SODIMM I have in there at the moment is double sided as well And it's certainly not a memory slot issue (my PB does fall in the range of the upper memory slot problem Apple is having) as I have used the Samsung in the upper slot as well and it's recognised fine.
