Default Thermosonic Thermal Engine

I bought a Black Thermal Engine for my AMD 1GHz, I know this may sound silly, but im wondering there would be any difference in cooling between the Black coloured one and the Aluminium coloured one????

The black ones are supposed to be better. Something happens when they Anodize them, Dunno what happens, But they come out better.

I saw http://www.theoverclockerzstore.com doesnt warranty and cpus used with this HS, because its hard to get on and may crack the core.

It is not hard to take the heatsink on and off so long as you put the thing on the right way around, AND, you use a flat bladed screwdriver of the correct size to take the clip off and on with!

Very easy to take on and off, very effective cooling especially with the 7500 rpm black delta.

Kn0wLedGe , in the tests that I've done - full results up very soon - there is little to no difference between the different coloured ThermoEngines.

I'm using the black anodised one on my new 1.33 Tbird with a non-conductive (blue anodised) shim and it works great.

As Whisper said, not hard to take off, providing you use a flat bladed screw driver to push down and lever off the correct clip.

I do recommend a shim, some people say not to bother, but it really does stop you cracking your core, and it's just an added peace of mind. The clip on the Thermoengine is quite strong, so having the shim brace it as you tilt the cooler into place makes sense to me. Also, I have two highspeed (6000rpm each) 80mm fans on a fan adaptor hanging from my Thermoengine, so the added support from the shim is again, worthwhile.

I too have read there is a 1 - 2 degree drop in temp with the black ones, certainly nothing to write home about, but I got a black just the same

Where did you get the shim from?
So you've bought an AMD system as well now,
must have missed that somewhere along the line.
Black Thermoengine for me with a 1.33 Athlon.
What mobo are you using, I have a KT7A but looking at one of these new DDR mobos?

Had a weird dream the other night I went to visit my mate Trev from these forums (goes by trevor68) and you lived next door to him... Like I said weird dream...

Default Epox Epox Epox Oi Oi Oi !!

Teddy,

Heya, I got shim from Cool PC for $14. Got some of that Artic Silver II as well, my original tube of Artic Silver was getting a big claggy. I think they fixed the consistency problems with AS II, it sure went on smooth anyway.

Yeah I finally turned to the dark side, glad I did too I'm running on an Epox 8K7A+, got it from Cougar Computers who I normally don't use, but they were to ONLY people in Aus I could find who had it. I run a 256mb stick of Crucial 2100 ram with it, which is very nice.

My P3V4X finally gave up the ghost a couple of months ago, I think it was modded too much hehe. As you know, I was running an Abit SA6R with my 700e@933 for a while (you were running a CUSL2 if I remember correctly). Still going to use that as firewall.

Anyway, the Epox 8K7A+ is a GREAT motherboard, if you want to go DDR (and why not) then I thoroughly recommend it, it's brilliant. I've only had it a few days mind you, but I'm already running my 1.33AXIA at 9.5x155 (1475) 1.92v. Took my 3DMark2001 score up 700 points compared the the PIII.

I'm still playing with memory timing and voltage to try and get higher, probably take a few days to get a good idea what she can really do, but I'm stoked with it's performance already, so I won't be complaining if I can't do much more. I would like to get the 1.5 mark though, it's a matter of pushing the FSB as high as I can too, I want the ram to scream

Maybe your dream implies you think I'm always 'next door' ready to lend a hand? Maybe you wanted to get a peek at my next case mod so you put me 'just over the fence'. Maybe you're just weird?

Yep definately was a weird dream!

Might email coolpc as I'll be changing mobos soon.
I no longer have any P3V4X's they were both working well when I sold them and a friend at works reckons its the best mobo he's ever owned. So he's happy

I still run my CUSL2-C with P3 1GHZ at anything up to 1.15 GHZ but usually I just leave it at 1.08GHZ, runs flight sims nicely with the Creative GF2 Ultra in.

So many ppl have recommended the Epox 8K7A+ I might just have to pick one up! cougar get them next week, auspcmarket have them as do eyo. I hear the 1/5 PCI divider does wonder for one's overclocking if you have the good memory. I think the 7.11 BIOS is the one to get for that.

My Corsair PC2400 DDR is on order from Jim @ realtime but some ppl are complaining it ONLY goes to 166. Geez I think I would be happy just to get 166 esp if it does this @ CAS2.
Memory timings & voltages thats going to be fun! Seems a lot more options are available than one is used to.
So it seems a hot item (epox 8K7A) & its probably what I will pickup next week now only if my RAM would hurry up from the US.
Teddy
Edit auspcmarket had some sold out now.Teddy

well if you think about it blakc absorbs radiation and radiates heat much faster, so that would account for teh very small differences, cause the main part of cooling is convection and conduction, little to no radiation....

i think the black would do more good for its looks than its performance...
