Just to double check with what you've said, so long as my mp3 folder goes only one folder deep, (ie; D:\Mp3's\Artist - Album Name) all my mp3's will be copied over if I just drag that one higher (D:\Mp3's) folder across?

That's pretty darn impressive! It seems like despite many problems people face with iPod's they certainly have a lot of versatility and good programming!

Complexity.
No worries
Yes if you drag the MP3's folder over into your library it will add mp3s + 1 extra folder, like your Artist-Album Name folder/s (ie: your "Spice Girls-Spice up your life" album )

Another important note for you, dont set your "iTunes" folder (were any "baught" songs or podcasts will be kept, which you can specify in the iTunes options defaults to My Documents/my music or there abouts to were your actual mp3s are kept, otherwise if you remove songs from iTunes it will delete them from your computer as well (adding mp3s from outside this iTunes specific folder wont be deleted)

Edit: Does not actually delete it, see following posts.

Not true, if you delete songs from iTunes it will prompt you if you want to keep the song file, or move it to the "Recycle bin"/Trash.

My bad, Yes you are correct it does ask you.

Edit: Although if you have your "delete" options to automatically purge recylce bin and not ask to purge it, you could delete it :P

Sad day today. My mini has fucked itself .

This morning when I went to use it it was going really slow and wouldn't play any songs. Then it decided to turn itself off. When I tried to reset it it displayed a folder icon with the Apple support web address. The computer wouldn't even recognise it, the poor darl. So I put it into disk mode, then the computer recognised it (hurray), so I tried restoring it but the updater said "can't mount ipod".

So I tried it again. This time the computer didn't recognise the ipod, saying that a USB device has "malfunctioned". Right.

Now when I plug her in nothing happens...

My beloved! Oh well... time for a nano . But where to find the cash?

edit: PS. This thread is really good. It helped me more than the stupid Apple website :P.

Hey, are you running that iPod on a windows machine?
Try running it on a Mac and restoring it. You'd be surpised how many times an iPod cannot be restored on a PC, but it restores on a Mac instantly..

don't bother doing the above if you need an excuse to buy a nano

Thanks for the advice, peterz, but still no joy . I think it's royally stuffed.

I'm thinking about a 30GB one now. The price difference between a 4GB Nano and a 30GB Video is only $80 or so

Hey guys can you please help me with a question. I will be buying an iPod probably around November off the apple store site. I will be getting the 5th gen ipod 60GB (unless something better comes out). Do they come with a power adapter that plugs into a wall outlet? or do they come equipped to just charge from the computer USB connection without a power adapter?

I noticed you can buy one from the site, but I didn't know whether they just come with the ipods now.

Thanks!

Complexity.

oh also, do they come with the dock, or do I have to purchase that separately?

Thank you very much!!

So it seems that it doesn't come with the power adapter, or the dock (but it comes with a 'dock adapter' whatever that is)

The dock adapter is a little plastic bracket that fits different sized ipods into the universal dock (just swap them out so any ipod can fit the dock).

Unhappy

my ipod died this morning it's a u2 4th gen monochrome ipod... served me well for 1.5 years..

i was just listening to music on the train, nothing special and all of a sudden the ipod stops... then it starts making clicking sounds tried resurrecting via this article to no avail. the guys at nextbyte in brisbane gave me tools to hack open the ipod free of charge (as it was out of warranty anyway, the guy was nice enough), but even so i get the ipod "X(" screen and then shuts down. i've already tried resetting and rebooting, i can't even update the firmware nor does it recognise it on mac osx or windows. HD must be foobarred

other than buying a used ipod off ebay and scavenging a hard drive, any other ideas? i'd rather keep the monochrome goodness

Nice, I hope you've got a cover for it

I had an Agent18 shield on mine for a while - has anyone mentioned InvisibleSHIELD in this thread yet? It's basically a contact-like plastic cover for it, that is stronger than anything I've ever seen, and protects your iPod from dings, scratches, etc. The stuff they used was invented for covering the leading edges of helicopter blades so it's crazy strong stuff! And it comes off without leaving any marks or residue, should you ever want to take it off. Check out the videos on the page for some wicked demoes!

I got one for my nano a few weeks ago (free shipping to Australia too), and it's every bit as good as the site says. The only thing I've done wrong is I fumbled the application a bit, so a bit of dust got under the top left and bottom right corners on the front sheet, but otherwise it's perfect! And unlike my Agent18 I can now read my engraving

I decided on the (totally overpriced) Nano Tubes:

http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebOb...plm=MA241G%2FA

They are ridiculously expensive, but I got the education discount and I'm selling two of them for $10 each to my friends, so it's not really that bad. I really like them because they not only protect the ipod, but they actually make it look cool too. I have the green one on at the moment . The only bad thing is that they don't cover the screen . I think I'll have to buy those sticker-like things, too.

But other than that... totally happy! I'm listening to it right now .

PS: I just realised that the earphones have L and R on them and that I've been using them wrong all year on my old ipod
