Nice! Awesome score mate

Just wondering, did you have to phone/e-mail Apple to get an RMA number or something? Or did you just walk into an authorized repair centre to get a replacement?

Cheers!

Can anyone help me?

Just purchased an ipod off the forums.

Its a 4G 20Gb Ipod.

Can not seem to connect it to a computer via the USB cable.
When I try it just displays the icon that it needs the wallcharger,
I have tried connecting it to a wallcharger but it still displays the same icon.

I have tried reseting the ipod and charging it via wallcharger, it displays the charging icon, but looks as though it is frozen as the icon doesnt animate.

Any ideas?

I picked up one of those cheap 'refurbished' iPod minis a while ago, and it did a very similar thing. I tried charging it via a wallcharger and still got no joy, the charging icon stayed static instead of animating. I eventually took it to an AppleCare centre where they tried the same thing. Eventually they believed that I had already left it on the charger for over 24 hours and they replaced it (took two or three days round trip).

Only thing I can suggest is that when I run any of mine dead flat, it seems normal for them to take a while to show that they're actually charging.

I have had 2 ipods

1st: 4gb First Gen Mini. Brought over a year ago for $60 dollars, still had 2 years warranty! Came with all accessories and was in mint condition. Man best purchase ever.
Still running awesome, dad uses it now.

2nd: 30gb Video iPod 5.5G. Got for $180 + (3year warranty), got $200 rebated off when I got my macbook.

----
I also have 2x 3rd Gen ipods, both with busted hdd.
and a farked Mini, absolutely raped (found it on the ground!)
----

I have a question though, i purchased a 4th gen hdd to put in one of the 3rd gens.

I can't get the ipod to boot correctly, i can only put it in USB and slap on disk mode. I can't update the ipod as its 3rd gen and does not update through USB. I also can't put any music on to it.

If i use firewire and slap it in disk mode it takes ages to load and freezes and shit. After like 10min it will connect to a computer but fark up and wont update.

How can I possibly fix this?

cheers
Wako

Hi,

I'm looking for some feedback with peoples experiences with getting Apple to repair ipod nano's that have become damaged though use.

The iPods about 1.2 years old, and we have the apple care protection (2 yr warranty).

Anyway this finaly happened on friday, I don't know exactly when as the iPod still plays and didnt notice it untill she got home and took it out of her pocket (my sister's ipod).

I told her a few months back that her ipod looks bent, but it was only slight, looks like its has finaly broken due to repeated stress.

Looks like its not a rugged as Apple make it out to be.

Anyway i called apple care, and the guy from india upon hearing a broken screen says it could be due to physical damage which wont be covered, and i'm supposed to take it to a premium retailer for them to decide if its physical damage or not.

Anyone got any experience with this issue? Did you manage to get any love from apple ?

Don't really want to be out 200 dollars for a new mp3 player if apple can be convinced to cover this one.

Any tips/feedback or experiences let me know.

Thanks,

David

Pretty much physical abuse and wont get covered. SImilar thing happened to my gf's ipod. She blamed it on the FM modular over charging the ipod that warpped it. But it looked like she sat on it! Apple centre said their warranty do not cover physical abuse.

What is an apple centre ?

They said to take it to nextbyte, they seem to just be a regular retailer ?

Does apple centre mean any large retailer ?

Nextbyte are an Apple-Certified Premium Reseller, giving them authority to decide on Apples's behalf.

Just got my new iPod the other day.

Does anybody know if you can sort the songs by 'album artist' rather than 'artist'?

I understand the concepts of 'Compliation', and thats great for mixes. But I've got multiple albums which might have a primary artist, but on certain songs has a 'contributing' artist. iTunes can cope with this, but on the iPod, under 'Artists' it lists that particular song as a separate artist ie. "Artist1 / Artist2"

For example:
Santana Supernatural album:
'Smooth' is performed by both Santana and Rob Thomas.
On iTunes: album artist = Santana; artist = Rob Thomas/Santana
On iPod: It lists this song under 'Rob Thomas/Santana'

I just want to listen to the whole album in one go, but not have to remember the album name (ie. Music > Album instead of Music > Artist). And I prefferably don't want to lose the contributing artist's name by re-naming the 'Artist' to 'Santana'.

WMP gets around this by having two different entries - 'Artist' and 'Contributing Artist'.

If any body can understand what I've just said, do you have any ideas?

AFAIK, you can do this by setting the songs as a compilation, and then setting the compilation setting on your ipod as well.

Only problem with that is then it just shows the albums, not the artists. Either that or when I'm looking for an album I'll have to remember whether it's a compilation or not...

Thanks for the tip anyway. Anyone else got any ideas?

It's looking like I may just have to change the artist to the individual artist.
