Well I am going to have a Emac g4 700 in a few days hopefully!!!!
I have heard many reports that they can get upto 900-950mhz before overheating. What I was wondering is if I decrease the voltage to the chip (by 0.025 or 0.05v) would I be able to reduce the temp enough to get 50-100 mhz more out of the chip over the standerd overclock...I read some where that someone to 1.2 ghz out of there chip (700mhz rev 1 not 800mhz rev 2!!!!) I was thinking if I used some AS5 and reduced the voltage by 0.025 or 0.05v I could reduce heat output and also optimise the heat absorbtion well enough to get 1.0ghz or even 1.1ghz...Would 0.05v cause instability @ 700mhz or even the overclocked speed??? I also heard somewhere that these chips are volted @ 1.75v but the chip manufacturer says that they are designed to run @ 1.70-1.725v..Could I pull this off??? I believe in theory this could work but I would like some opinions on it before I try it on my emac. |

You will get a better overclock with more voltage not less.

You would have to try and it and see.
What I am saying is you will always get a better overclock with more voltage, not less. If its stable at 1.75v at a certain speed of overclock it may be unstable or not boot at lower voltages. Heat isnt really a problem for CPU's working. |

Ever looked inside an eMac? You'd have to be pretty keen to get the logic board out to overclock it!
Anyway, in case you didn't know the original eMac (silver access door) with the 700MHz G4 and nVidia GF2mx graphics is a little different to the later ATi graphics models (white access door). I found a guide overclocking the 700s here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=111922 This site is also useful, though it relates mainly to the later eMac. There is also links to the official service manuals for both versions at the bottom of the page. http://www.lbodnar.dsl.pipex.com/eMac/eMac-upgrade.html Let us know how it turns out. Asteroid
