Default Laptop keyboard not working!?!?!?!?

Alrighty, big problem. Keyboard on laptop is NOT working. I currently have a USB keyboard plugged in just to type this!!! I can type in Microsoft Word and nothing will come out, then just hitting keys randomly (quite frustrated) somethings will show up such as "vv>v>vv>vv", and somehow buttons that close it as well? But my fingers went no where near alt+4...... I have no idea what's going on!!!

And then it's like the laptop will all of sudden try to catch up on stuff, repeating tasks over and over, quick flickers of the "turn off computer" button and desktop, turn off computer, desktop, etc, etc.

Needless to say, this is a BIG problem. Someone please help me? They touchpad will work, but the keyboard won't. And i'm quite sure it's not a virus. And i've installed the chipset drivers from Dell. It is an Inspiron 500m for reference. And was working fine last night, then this morning decided to throw it in..... Please help!

Does it work while its booting? Go into BIOS and see if you can move around with the laptop keyboard. If not, check in there if theres a setting to enable it.

It may work if the laptop keyboard is only disabled in Windows. Otherwise a USB/PS2 external keyboard will get you there.

It doesn't even come up eith the options to enter BIOS now. Though it is F2 i'm sure. So i'll check that. But the Scroll Lock key works fine untill just as the "Windows it now starting..... bar moving across thing", and then just before it changes to start loading desktop it turns off, and you can't change it back on or off. So no idea what's going on....... This is driving me insane!!!

I don't what it's like on Dell's, but with most laptops it's pretty easy to remove the keyboard. You usually have to remove a couple of screws on the bottom, and flick some tabs on the keyboard and it will pop out.

I'm telling you this as you may want to try disconnecting then reconnecting the keyboard data cable, in case it's gotten a little loose.
