Default Dell Laptop Screen Light Issue

Hi Guys,

My almost 2 year old Dell 5150 has had it's backlight go out...or at least that's what i think the issue is.

The laptop still turns on etc. I unscrewed the screen and pulled it out, and placed a lamp behind it...I could see my desktop etc....so that side of things still works - hence why I think it's just a backlight issue.

Now, doesn't anyone know my options with this? Is it possible to buy a new backlight and install it myself? How much would a repairer charge to fix it? I've seen whole screens on ebay for $150 - $200, but don't know if that's good value or not.

Any thoughts or advice would be good. I'm not exactly rolling in $$$ at the moment. so don't want to spend if I don't really need to.
