Default Inspiron 9400 - big problems

Well after a lot of mucking around reinstalling Windows and most of my stuff onto the new laptop, it's stuffed again just like last time.
I've used a different version of Windows to the one that was supplied with it, and been VERY careful that absolutely NO spyware/etc has got onto it.

Once again, Opera crashes immediately, I can't network to other computers, I have lost sound, the XP theme keeps getting changed, and the taskbar keeps swapping to the Classic style. There's no doubt other stuff, but I haven't found it yet.

I've run Memtest for hours and hours with no faults. Run SiSoft Sandra burn-in test for ten iterations again with no problems.

Has anyone else had problems like this? I really don't want to have to send it back to Dell to get looked at. But I think I'm going to have to ....

Have you tried contacting DELL? You get a warranty for a reason.

Not yet - I'm in Aus at the moment and am heading back to Malaysia in a couple of days for two months so I don't want to give it to Dell Aus. I'll try Dell Malaysia though soon after I get there.
I'm going to try one more reinstall to see how that goes.

That aint going to be a problem with your 9400 hardware. Sounds like you have some piece of software that is "upsetting" windows.

What if you do a Dell System restore ? What happens then ?

Well, I've wiped everything - again! - and done a full format to be sure. I installed my copy of XP SP2, and used the Dell CD to install all the driers.

So far it's working fine .... I'll just very carefully add one piece of my software at a time and see how it goes.
I ran SiSoft Sandra burn-in for hours and it came up with zero problems. Also Memtest.

Fingers crossed it'll keep going this time ...

What OS came with it? You might be installing drivers from MCE (if thats an issue ).
