Default FUBAR laptop screen.

The screen on my bosses Dell lappy just crapped itself.

It still seems to work, because you can just faintly see it, but it doesn't seems to be backlighting or something.
I hooked it up to an external monitor, and it shows up fine.

Any ideas what has happened to the screen? It'll still be under warranty anyway, but I just wanna impress everyone at work with my 133t troubleshooting skills

Like you said: the back-light is broken; more than likely, specifically the CCFL

What did Brian think the problem was?

He was saying 'bulb is broken'.

I knew it must have something to do with backlighting, since it was faintly visible, and working fine on external monitor- but I'd never heard the word lamp used for anything other than projectors and rear-pros. (CRT's use tubes right- no backlighting there?) Certainly didn't think LCD's had 'bulb'.

A bit of a crowd had gathered around the lappy when I got there (after posting). I pulled out the word CCFL, and they all thought I was BS'ing. I used my new found education to inform them all that LCD's use Cold Cathode Fluroescent Lamps and they all went "Whoa! You sure know a lot!"

+1 Brownie points to Me. -1 Brownie points to Brian.
