Obviously at 3.3kg this is not exactly an ultraportable, but it seems like it'd make a fairly decent desktop replacement for mum and dad, and my folks have been wanting to get a laptop for some time.

I'm not really on the ball with regards to prices, but this seems like a pretty good deal. Suspiciously good, infact. Normally I would be wary of buying something as large as a laptop from a nofrills store, but my experiences with ALDI so far have been quite decent (including that rebadged MSI 588 PMP a month ago). Anyone have any opinions on this?

Seems alright, 1440x900 is a dissapointing resolution for a 17" widescreen though - with an inbuilt HDTV tuner I'd want 1920x1200 to view 1080i without downscaling.

Price seems okay, but Core Duo laptops are only going to getting cheaper over the next couple of months.

The only thing that truly makes this item good is the standard 2 year warranty and the HD tuner. Core Duo is all the rage now though, so they are probably trying to clear old stock of the Pentium M.

The go7300 is useless really its nvidias entry level card atm and has replaced the 6200.

You would be much better off with the Dell 6400(15.4") or 9400 (17") Both can be specced much better and the 6400 will be cheaper

So which card do people think is better, the Go7300 256mb (which aldi says it is) or the X1400 256mb one in the dell.

Probably in that circumstance. The X1400.
