Lightbulb Dual Core vs 64bit - Laptops

Im about to buy a laptop before the end of next week. This would mainly be for uni work, dvds, music, and possibly some light gaming (Like FIFA, Sims2). As this laptop would most likely replace my desktop, it would have to last long, before forking out more dough for a newer laptop in the future. So, im just wondering which route I should take, to prolong the life of my up coming purchase - Dual Core, or Single Core 64bit?

best choice would be the new core duo's that run 667 fsb so if you do require an upgrade u can just put in the new 64bit dual core at the begining of next year

Are you sure the 64bit Core Duo will work in a 32-bit Core Duo laptop too? Chipset may be the limiting factor.

Sadly, this group now seems to be feeling pressure to change."
I drive a stock R33 non turbo automatic Skyline - 120kW at the wheels!

AMD Turion X2's are slated for a May 9 release - so hopefully would start seeing them over here in June?

yep

Merom will be like the Dothan. It'll first come out with the same FSB as Yonah so it's drop in compatible with the current Napa platform, like how Dothan could go into Carmel platform. Then Intel will come out with the new Santa Rosa platform and bump up the FSB on the Merom, same as how Sonoma platform came out and the Dothan got it's FSB upped to 533MHz.
