Default AMD Cool 'n' Quiet and the SN21G5

Proud owner of new SN21G5 and Athlon 3500+ combo seeks ability to enable AMD Cool 'n' Quiet functionality in BIOS. Am I dreaming of an impossible quest as I can't find any mention of AMD's C'n'Q on the Shuttle Website. Thought it would be an obvious measure for an SFF machine.

Do other Shuttle SFF's support C'n'Q? (In other words "Have I made a bad decision re: SN21G5?")

The only note attached to an updated BIOS for this box is "FX-60 support".

Im not sure you even need to do anything in BIOS, if it has support for Cool And Quiet it should be enabled behind the scenes so to speak.

However you do need to enable it in Windows/Linux

In Windows you will need to install the AMD Cool and Quiet Driver then you need to select Minimal Power Management as the Power Scheme.

It should then be running fine..

Hope any of this helps.

Oh I own a Shuttle SN25P, Cool and Quiet works in that fine, I didnt have to enable anything special in BIOS rather just had to do what I mentioned above.

I have an SN95G5 and CnQ works fine. Yes there are as few things to install in Windows.

It detects as a 1GHz processor when it's on CnQ. Linux works with it fine

Thanks guys, but I knew about the "Minimal Power" scheme and the specific processor driver from AMD. All the software I've checked with is showing me that the 3500+ is not throttling back from 2.2GHz at all. Thats why I was looking for a BIOS option.

I don't think the SN21G5 supports CnQ. Bugger.

I'd say it will just be a matter of waiting for Shuttle to release a BIOS update.

The SN25P was the same, Cool and Quiet didn't work at first but after a few BIOS updates they had it working.

Its got one of those nForce 6100 chipsets don't it? I'm sure they support Cool and Quiet.

Just gotta play the waiting game...

How are you finding the SN21G5? I was going to get one but couldn't wait for it to be released and grabbed the SN95G5. I think I will grab one when I need a new video card. No point wasting money on AGP.

So far she is runnng sweet. No driver issues, Shuttle even included another CD with 64bit drivers and 64bit versions of their XPCtools. The 6100 is doing a decent enough job on the graphics side, this box is acting as a MP3 box and the onboard sound has coax digital out which suited me to a T.
