Some great shots there mate, i particularly like the 2nd one (spray shot, i love seeing water being thrown around) and the 3rd last one with the dude in the barrel.
Im not sure i would use a polariser if i had to up ISO to 800, especially in overcast coniditons. I think i would rather have the extra light and stay at ISO400. Can you notice the noise in full res versions? Then again i suppose it depends on how glary the conditions are and what the refelctions are like. Do you shoot RAW and convert or go for JPG's? I think i get more noise in the dark/shadow areas from RAW when im shooting in overcast conditions. Im still tryin to figure out what settings work best. Thanks for sharing, good to see the 400 getting a workout Bubba

Thanks Bubba.
Yes, I'm trying to wean myself off the polariser for whenever the ISO gets too high and/or shutter speeds get too low, or when I suspect the faces etc will be too dark. You definitely do see the noise in the original versions. I stopped briefly at Kirra/Rainbow bay and it was so dark I went to ISO1600. Some other shots at Duranbah were at 1600 as well. Naturally, none were worth sharing (combo of noise and distance). I was only taking jpg's until it got darker. I then tried RAW because it's meant to allow more latitude with brightening, at times when you deliberately underexpose to keep a better ISO or shutter speed. The irony is that, in my limited experience, when you increase the brightness, you make the noise more noticeable at the same time. To me, the shots look a bit more washed out when you brighten deliberately underexposed raw images too. Looking forward to your next shots Bubba. Regards Disci PS: 'Heard of timeshare accommodation? Looks like you, Redav, me and some others need (!) a 'timeshare' 2.8!!

Yeah i had the same thing with those shark island pics a while back. Bad light so i shot RAW and underexposed intentionally to keep up shutter speeds, but the noise levels were pretty bad.
I've since bought noise ninja and it helps a fair bit, but to remove noise you do lose some detail as well. Its a tradeoff. But still its better to get a slightly noisy shot then a blurry unuseable one. Bubba

Bubba, since you liked that barrel shot, I thought I may as well throw in this other one I just found. Nothing much to see, and it's a boogie board, but anyway....

Thanks Scarper.
Disci PS: When I got prints this morning at Harvey Norman, the guy said: "Are these for a magazine?"
