Default iBook, Bootcamp and other assorted stuff

Ladies and gents,

I have decided that if certain real life events fall my way, I'm gonna treat myself to some geek goodness, one of them being a 12" notebook.

the 12" iBook is of great interest to me, especially with its price after educational discount. So here's a few questions for u mac-heads, so that maybe you can help me become one of you!

1. How does WinXP performance fare with the current iBook using Bootcamp? Games etc not a big deal to me.
2. With the release of the dual core stuff, do you think the current iBook lineup will be replaced soon? If so, being the cheapest lineup of the portable family, will it still retain a pricing of around 1.6k?

I understand if there is no official word from Apple, but any links or information from Apple rumour sites etc will be greatly appreciated!

best regards.

1. You can't use Bootcamp on the current iBooks, as they are still running G4 processors.

2. Yes, the iBooks are due to be replaced soon (don't know when, exactly). I'd assume pricing would be about the same. Oh, and they'll most likely be named "MacBook" - minus the "Pro" moniker of its higher end siblings.

1. You can't run Bootcamp on the current PowerPC based iBooks.
The Intel based iBook (Macbook?) is due out soon & will probably be 13" widescreen.
VirtualPC is currently an option on PPC based machines however it is pretty much a waste of time - crap performance.

2. As above - I'd say the pricing should stay the same - if anything it should drop but I doubt Apple would go there.

EDIT: I need to type faster next time!

There will probably be an announcement of the macbooks sometimes in June but that's pure speculation.

I would definately wait if I were you.

I've had my Intel iMac for a grand total of 1.5 days, and I must say that I am not looking forward to going back to a windows based system (school). If I were you, I would wait for the release of the MacBook.

You won't regret it.

sorry about OT post.
