I believe a 29" is a 68cm, if I'm wrong I deserve to be shot (I work with these TV's on weekends)

Save your money! Have a look at a few tv's before you buy. What i find happens a lot is people think TV and they think Sony. But ive found some Sony TV's are too sharp for their own good and i prefer a slightly duller image. The Hi Fi Corporation has an 80cm Singa for $900. Check it out if you live in Sydney. It had a great picture and for 900 bucks i cant see you going wrong!
Unless of course you want 1.85:1 but thats a whole other story.

I like the Panasonic TAU.
27" is roughly 68-70cm. It depends on how much money you have. You can buy a 70cm 100Hz flat screen with PIP and component and it'll cost you over $2,000... Or you can buy a $599 Digitor or Hi-fi corporation special. I'm not sure flat screen is all that important given the price hike. Also flat screen = much increased weight as well. This is what I reckon is necessary: - s-video front and rear - 3 x rca component - 16x9 mode for DVD (pref. with no control line) - speakers I could give a shit :-) - SCART I could give a shit :-) - TV tuner I could give a shit, I use my VCR :-) - reasonably flat tube - reasonable remote if you're going to use it all the time - I would dearly love 100Hz and VGA compatibility or even widescreen but these cost a lot. Orion have a 100Hz WS 80cm television for $2,4 - 2,500 and that's along the lines of what I'd like. I hope Mark P. has something to say because he knows more than me. T. |

Sony may make some quality products for the upper middle quality segment but they got nothin when it comes to audiophile products.

I know many people reckon Wega is shit hot and all the PSX hosers think it's way cool to hook up their playstations to it but it wouldn't be my choice for DVD. Sony do make some excellent audiophile grade components - like the VPL-V10/11HT projector, the 777es receiver, the 9000es series from the DVP-S9000 DVD progressive player to the 9000 separates and the SACD series player like the SCD-1 and SCD-777es and the TA series separates. I know Sony get a bad rep from the shit stuff at HN and the like but credit where credit is due - they occasionally make something worthwhile (unfortunately the WEGA is not one of them). T. |

I suppose i was a bit harsh on Sony. They do make some good stuff but only good
. When you really start throwing the money around heheh oh its good fun . Got a lazy $22000 for a Linn cd player? Made out of two machined pieces of alloy. The damn thing weighs a ton i dont reckon a tank could make it skip

eheh thanks tony.
Why are you limiting yourself to 68cms? Id rather a bigger one, then the best small one. But thats just me. I personally like Loewe better the Sony models, the sony ones seem a little too fake, and unnatural. Grundig and Metz also make some nice ones, but I havent seen a better CRT image then a widescreen Loewe. I have a 68cm 16x9 compatible (no ref line at all) RGB/Svideo/composite (three inputs), Loewe and it cost me a fair bit under $2000, and that was ages ago. |

Ok I can verify that I am correct in regards to 29" being a 68cm TV, yes mathematically it works out to be approx. 72cm but I worked yesterday and the Toshiba and Sony 68cm TV's (others too) are expressed in size as 29 inches....eg, the sony flatscreen model is KVXA29M31, Toshiba is 29DXA, etc, etc
