Default Shuttle SN27P2 Discussion

This monster machine just got released a couple of days ago.
http://global.shuttle.com/Product/Barebone/SN27P2.asp

It's currently being demonstrated at Computex Taipei 2006.

There aren't many reviews out yet as it, but just an excerpt from hexus.net:
Quote:
The guts of the system are based around NVIDIA's nForce5 chipset that supports AM2-based processors and provides integrated high-definition audio (Azalia). You will be able to install a maximum of 8GB DDR2 memory, run the latest graphics card (if it fits!) on the single x16 PCIe slot, upgrade older PCI components via a single slot. High-speed connectivity comes in the form of 10x USB2.0 and 2 FireWire400 ports, storage is served by 4 SATA2 ports and a single PATA133. Lastly, Gigabit LAN and a multicard reader finish off the package.

Anandtech Review (30/6/2006)
The Tech Report (27/7/2006)
Tom's Hardware Summary (28/7/2006)

Please feel free to pm me any new reviews that I can add to this list.

As for stock in Aus, it should be arriving by the end of the month.

Staticice Price Check - SN27P2

As for those concerned about if it can fit either a 7900GT or GTX, YES they do both fit (individually), as tested by Anandtech.com
As for the power, all Shuttle P2 chassis' are now fitted with a 400w PSU. Read official statement here.

nice prices!

Note that the NF5 chipset draws a considerable amount of power (20W?)

It is certainly larger than their current boxes - I consider the G5 chassis is the best so far.

Got an Aria mATX recently and thinking I should've paid the extra for an XPC

That's a very nice price - obviously Shuttle are going for the mainstream market with that unit.

I think I'll stick with my SN25P for a while longer.

EDIT: Here's an in-depth PCSTATS review: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...id=1968&page=1

Those rear vents are really bad - way more restrictive than my SN25P.

yeh i would agree with AMD going for the mainstream market.

as for the rear ventilation/fans, would the new different style of the hdd caddies be a contributing factor you reckon?

A contributing factor would be the lack of forethought that went into that area of the case.

My SN25P has similar fans which are about the loudest in the unit (I had to remove them) but the vents are much better than the new unit.

I do like the design of the new caddies though. I don't much like carrying around ~300GB of RAID0 data supported by a few pieces of plastic.

you can control the fan speed via Shuttle's XPC tools - something along the lines of smart fan or something. My friend demonstrated to me on his sn25p that yes the fans can get pretty hectic when you run em at full rpm, but if you run em when smart mode or something, its a million times quieter.
