Default Compaq Presario V2000 Series S/PDIF Audio Out

I've got a Compaq Presario V2000 series notebook, and want to use S/PDIF digital audio out.

Now the notebook does support this, but needs an appropriate cable to plug into the HP Expansion Port 2. The only cable that HP sell is the HP xc2000 All-in-one Media Cable (Part Number: PH675PA) but it's $149 retail so it'd cost me about $118 or there abouts. The second problem is the lead time from my supplier: at least 45 days.

The cable is also overkill for what I want, with lots and lots of other conections that I'll never use. Even has a remote control from what I can see.

Here's a link to the US website...

Does anyone know of another way to get S/PDIF out? From what I can see, this applies to a large number of HP laptops with the Expansion Port 2, so has anyone else found a cheaper option?

Thanks, apreciated!

well, I'd usually source something as light as this from the US.

www.shopthestates.com

That techexcess place seems to have shitty reviews, so it could be a gamble.

Other than that, sorry that I couldn't offer alternatives, but above is what I'd usually do.

Thanks, at least that's a few more options. Would have been nice if the earlier XC1000 cable worked! Only $45 USD.

Edit: Does anyone know if the headphone socket doubles as the digital audio out with the appropriate cable? Seems to be what happens with most laptops including some of the HP/Compaq range...
