Palm OS is very stable. I've got a Palm T3 myself, had it for 2 years with out any problems. Does not lockup like the Pocket PCs staff in our office have.

My first PDA was a Palm IIIc and I used it to write short stories on while out and about
Next I had a few ipaq Windows based PDA's Then after a break from owning a PDA I bought a Palm T5 which I used for a few months and now after selling it I have a Palm TX which arrived today I prefer the Palm OS over the widows OS I think there are just as many good apps and games for the palm as for the Windows based PDA's A good forum for the Palm is http://forum.brighthand.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

I've always much prefered palmos to windows mobile. It's got masses of great software, it's got very low processor and battery requirements. It's designed to be a PDA, not a cut down laptop.
And it's as stable as a rock |

The Palm OS is very stable, more so than Windows Mobile but I still prefer the Windows Mobile OS because of ease of use, compatibilty, wider variety of software, etc.

I've not used PalmOS, but Windows Mobile is about as stable as Windows 95a. Come on, it's a Microsoft Product.
But to be fair, the main reason it crashes is the same reason Windows crashes. 3rd party crap. It just seems to be more prone. If you're looking for stability, go PalmOS. If you're looking for a broad range of functionality, but don't mind waiting thirty seconds while you soft reset after something goes fruity, Windows Mobile is the way to go. Also, if you know your way around Windows (eg registry, directory structure), the WM is easy as.

Much prefer Windows based PDA's. Stability has never been an issue and they run sweet. Multitasking correctly from day one unlike Palm PDAs (can they multitask yet correctly?) and a billion and one apps for anything you can want. Things only go south when you install poorly written software and if you get decent software reboots are a very rare thing. One thing though is if you want to use it for serious things then don't skimp on the amount of memory the device has. You cannot add more memory to a device afterwards and some programs only run from main memory rather than a compact flash not to mention that some tasks you run need alot of memory (eg GPS based navigation). Alot of people chew up memory by installing apps into it and then have bugger all memory left to run the things they want and then get hangs.

At work I find that invariably the people who complain about their windows based PDAs running slow and freezing having a zillion apps running in the background - not being aware the the close button doesn't (in a lot of cases) actually close the application. I install a simple task manager app and everything is sweet.
I've had my Windows Mobile based PDA for 6 months and have only rebooted it three times - and all of those were from me dicking around with dodgey software. |
