Default Suitability of keeping a goldfish in a blender.

I am looking for a reasonably low maintence pet, and decided I would like a small goldfish.

Instead of an aquarium or bowl, I would like to keep him/her in a blender, with all electrics disconnected. The water would be aerated and under UV light. My question is, would the blender be big enough for him/her? A standard blender jug is only around 1.5L or water.

Any goldfish buffs out there?

Matt

Goldfish require a HUGE amount of water to live properly. They are hardy though and that makes them the most abused fish in the world. If its a blender you want to keep fish in try a betta, apparently they like the small tank (Although I think this is just the owners justifying the small space they provide..)

Also you dont need a UV light for fish.

I agree you might be better off with a Betta or Siamese Fighting Fish.. they are less sensitive to water conditions and (apparently) don't mind the smaller tanks, although personally I think it's still pretty cruel. A blender jug is probably bigger than most tanks I've seen Bettas in tho. You might need to heat the tank during winter.

Make sure to put a big red fake "ON" button on the blender so when guests come round you can taunt your fish and threaten to turn it on.

You: "So you vill not talk? Vell, maybe zis vill loosen your tongue!"
*click*
Guest:"Nooooooo!" (faints)
You: "Dude, you got punk'd!" (hi-fives fish)

Ever thought of keeping the electrics connected? For those rainy days?

Yea you need like 40L per goldfish, its not your type of fish... yea look at a betta or something, much more suited to your circumstances!

I don't think even Siamese Fighting Fish like small tanks. My wife has one in a ~30 litre tank and he seems very happy compared to when he was in the BetaBowl thing.
Edit : I believe the surface area of the top of the tank is very importand for fish also.

That's right. Betta actually require to come up to the surface for air from time to time.

If you do it, maybe take the blades out or blunt them right up. They can be extremely sharp sometimes and would be easy for a fish to hurt themself on.
