Don't know where to even start looking. Dell, Toshiba ???
Preferably need a large screen and enough grunt to run low-mid resource demanding apps. No games. Also a printer bundled with the package would be nice. Never really into the laptop scene, could someone point me to the best value form money sources and name some good models, special deals etc.. For some reason Dell faxes me this special discount coupon shit every month or so, where u can redeem the coupon online (good for one day). However it's outdated now. Does MSY.com.au have good deals for laptops ?? Or is it best to go with big brand names when it comes to laptops ? |

I was looking at budget models for the parents, came down to four choices and the Compaq was cheapest and quickest for games but no inbuilt wireless, but Dell was most configurable with options. Details below:
* After $100 cashback Columns refer to the following: Brand Model Price CPU Memory Hard Disk Video LCD Resolution Wireless Warranty Weight DVD/CD ------------- Compaq Presario V2627AU $786* 1.8ghz Sempron (AMD) 1x512mb 40gb (4200rpm) ATI Radeon® Xpress 200 14” Wide screen 1280*800 NO 1 year 2.4kgs CDRW/DVD ROM --------------- Acer Aspire 3624WXCi $789* 1.6ghz Celeron (Intel) 1x256mb 40gb (?rpm) Intel® 910GML 192mb shared 14.1” Wide screen 1280*800 Yes 1 year 2kgs CDRW/DVD ROM --------- Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 $990.00 1.4ghz Celeron (Intel) 1x256mb 40gb (5400rpm) ATI Radeon® Xpress 200 64mb shared 15.4” Wide screen 1280*800 Yes 1 year 2.7kgs CDRW/DVD ROM ------ Dell Inspiron 1300 $799.00 1.5ghz Celeron (Intel) 1x256mb [1x512mb for $55] 40gb (5400rpm) [60gb for $29] Intel Media Accelerator 900mb 128 shared 14.1” Wide screen [15.4” for $33 extra] 1280*800 Yes 1 year 2.9kgs CDRW/DVD ROM [8X DVD for $48] $964 with above options |

If you could stretch the budget another $100, you'd be able to get the Inspiron 6400. That'd be worthwhile - a Core Duo CPU, 1GB of RAM, a free carry case, 15.4" screen, 60GB HDD, DVDRW, and MS Works. It's also got GMA950 for video.
